To the University community:

Over a year ago, we adopted extraordinary measures of social distancing to protect the health and well-being of all the members of our university community. I want to acknowledge and thank everyone for adapting to the challenges brought by the pandemic. It demonstrated our resilience to work together as a team to advance our mission.

Prevention strategies and vaccination campaigns have produced the expected results—a dramatic drop in new infections and the rate of positivity—which allows us to return to normality. Given the significant progress made in the fight against Covid-19, I am pleased to inform you that we will transition to face-to-face operations in the fall semester in all of our locations: the Miami Campus, the San Juan Campus, the Mayagüez University Center, the Office of President, PAF and the Third Mission Institute.

Therefore, the Fall 2021 classes that are scheduled to begin on August 30, 2021, will be offered as required by each program following these formats: in-person, online, or hybrid. The Chancellors will be sharing detailed information on these formats. The return to face-to-face operations will comply with the protocols and guidelines established by the government and health authorities. We urge everyone to continue to practice the public health measures that prevent the spread of this and other diseases, such as hand washing and physical distancing. We also encourage the members of our community to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

We are delighted that we will be able to welcome you back again to our locations. It is our turn now to prepare for this return full of energy and with a commitment to support the emotional recovery of our communities.

Cordially,

José Pons Madera, PhD President
